MOST IMPORTANT!

******************
1.

2.

3.

Buy consciously - by paying a bit more for quality, items last longer and work better.

Look for items that can be reused, recycled or repaired rather than thrown out.

Keep a stock of rechargable batteries for wireless office equipment like keyboards.

Saving Energy

We use low energy and fluoro globes throughout the premises.
Our small air con units are zoned so we only use what we need, when we need it.
When the shop is closed everything is turned off apart from essentials like the fridge and security/emergency lights.
We are in the process of building new offices and we have budgeted for high R-rating insulation.
When we need to purchase appliances and general equipment we look for products with 5-6 star rating (e.g. our fridge). There are some limitations, however, as we sometimes have to purchase inefficient printers for testing (only use for this purpose), and much of our industry specific equipment is not yet star rated.

Saving Water

We used to use a lot of water as part of the ink refill process. We now use a dry process which has reduced our water consumption by 30-40%. It would be higher, but we also now have a larger warehouse and more staff!
We use a kettle rather than an urn to minimise water and energy use.
Reducing waste

We're in the business of recycling cartridges so we are committed to reducing waste!
Scrap paper used to test print quality of cartridges.
We don't upgrade equipment unless absolutely necessary. That way we're throwing out less.
We give our old IT equipment to FEO's computer recycling program, and also source second hand test printers from them for our own testing.
One of the issues we are currently trying to address is finding the right place to recycle goods. There are materials we have that we know can be recycled, and we are always on the lookout for local companies capable of supplying recycling services for us.
Some of the printer cartridges we receive cannot be recycled due to manufacturer limitations. There are companies who can 'munch' and reuse these cartridges, and in the future we're looking at getting our own 'muncher' so we can recycle them ourselves.
We clean out our bulk plastic toner bottles when they're empty. These can then be recycled.
Reusing Resources

We actively promote recycling and reusing. We've found there are still many people who don't realise items like  cartridges can be recycled.
Technicians use old newspapers to cover benches when undertaking messy jobs. These are then recycled.
When we received parts and supplies, we keep the packaging and reuse it on outgoing goods.
Policies & Programs

We talk to customers about their printer purchases and encourage equipment that can be refilled/recycled.
The Cartridge World franchise has its own environmental protocol manual that they adhere to
We promote recycling in schools (see website) and have a program that encourages parents to bring in their used cartridges by providing rewards back to the school.
Our staff are committed to recycling - it's part of our way of operating as well as our core business.
