Midland Colour Techs

Designing a brand new building provides a great opportunity to incorporate many sustainable features. But management and staff at Midland Colour Techs are also committed to reducing consumption through their own actions.

The 'paperless office' may not be completely possible, but with support and the right equipment, paper usage can be significantly reduced.

Efficient office equipment can conserve anergy and reduce costs without affecting productivity.
Saving Energy

Building is well insulated to save on heating and cooling.
The new garden has been landscaped with Australian native plants to save water.
The doorway is shaded to reduce heat entering the building.
All PCs and printing devices used in the office are Energy Star Rated.
Light colours were incorporated into the external facade during design to increase heat reflection and reduce cooling requirements.
Heating and cooling in work areas is zoned - split systems separate work areas to reduce running costs when unoccupied. Energy efficient reverse cycle units were installed during construction.
All lighting is compliant with Energy Star Rating from Standards Australia.

Saving Water

Dual flush toilet systems were installed when the warehouse/office built.
Water from the building is stored in an on-site tank and used by the business. Any overflow is pumped back into Bendigo's water supply.
Reducing waste

Recycle bins are used to split cardboard, plastics and metal from main waste to reduce landfill.
Quotes are printed double sided (duplexed) for clients when a hard copy is required, although we prefer to email quotes wherever possible. All internal documents are also duplexed.
We always use scrap paper for test prints on client equipment and for internal printing.
Staff are supplied with a office mug rather than using disposable plastic ones.
Reusable cups are used with the water dispenser instead of disposable ones.
All faxes are received and sent via email through the PC rather than being printed.
Internal documents are filed using an electronic document filling systems, which means less need to be printed.
We also use 'scan to archive' technology - documents are scanned to electronic format then archived electronically. Old documents are then used as recycled paper to print test pages for photocopiers and printers. We believe this saves around 30 reams of paper a year. [That means saving nearly a whole tree, almost 30 litres of oil, over 300kW of electricity, and over 2,000 litres of water in 'new' paper production!]
Phone messages are emailed rather than using hand written notes.
33% of vehicles are gas rather than petrol to reduce green house gas emissions. Cars are serviced at regular service intervals to keep them running with minimal emmisions.

Reusing Resources

All used toner and print cartridges collected are sent to Cartridge World for remanufacture.
Customers are offed a 'close the loop' recycled toner box.
